He graduatied from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. As a young teenager D'Avesn was employed by René Lalique where he designed some of Lalique's most iconic vases, to which he is not widely credited. He left Lalique in 1926 to realise independently his own designs and would later collaborate with glassmakers Daum and Verlys.
