Le Verre Francais - Vase 'Scarabées'
$4895 AUD
Item 3314
A large and desirable Art Déco glass cameo vase of baluster form. The orange ground overlaid with mottled brown then acid etched & wheel cut with a design of scarab beetles and a decorative 'honey-comb' design. Signed with the 'Berlingot' - embedded candy cane mark as well as an incised 'Le Verre Francais'_ mark.
French, C1921.
- Glass maker Charles Schneider re-opened his workshop after WWI in 1918. From this period he used an embedded glass candy cane in the colours of the French flag in commemoration of the end of the war. This mark was used until 1921 and replaced with the 'Le Verre Francais' mark. The 'Scarabées' design was introduced in 1919 and produced until 1922. This would place this example's production at around 1921 at the time of the change-over.It is quite unsusal for pieces to bear both signatures.
