Johann Loetz Witwe or Wilhelm Kralik Söhne Art Nouveau Vase
$3695 AUD
Item 3411
A stunning Art Nouveau mounted iridescent green glass vase. The vase of baluster form with ruffled rim, the surface decorated with dimples and internal air bubbles. Known as "Diaspora" among the Loetz list of decors. The bronze finished mounts, of a vegetal design with 'whiplash' handles, are reminiscent of the architectual designs of Victor Horta or Hector Guimard. Unsigned.
Bohemian, circa 1900.
- This vase has been attributed to either Loetz or Kralik. It is difficult to ascertain a positive attribution as both glass makers did not sign their glass during this period. The carefully polished pontil mark on the base of the glass, the flame finished rim and the exceptional quality of the mounts lean heavily toward a Loetz attribution. Various experts who have appraised the vase, have differing opinions, as have various forums dedicated to Bohemian glass of this period. In the end, the vase is a stunning example of Art Nouveau design.
