A small cameo glass vase of flattened spherical form with an irregular opening*, The rose coloured ground overlaid with yellow & brown then acid etched and wheel carved with a floral umbel design. Signed Gallé in cameo.

*It has been suggested that the opening of this vase has been modified at some point. A Galle glass expert in France I have been in contact with, has noted published evidence that the glass workers at the factory were permitted to re-work salvaged pieces in their own time. A similar example has appeared from a Galle factory worker's private collection. The rim is finely worked and is sympathetic to the decor of the vase. It can only be the handy work of a highly skilled glass worker. Most modified pieces appearing on the market are mearly cut down and ground flat.
