A fine and rare bronze scuplture of a recumbent panther with a verdigris finish. Signed C Masson with the foundry seal for Susse Frères, Paris and cachet reading "Susse Frs., Paris. CIRE PERDUE".

** Clovis Edmond Masson(1838-1913)was noted a French sculptor / animalier who was a pupil of the prominent sculptor / animalier Antoine-Louis Barye.
** Cire Perdue is the French name for lost-wax casting which is the process of metal casting in which molten metal is poured into a mould that has been created by means of a wax model, which melts away once the model has been created.
