An Art Nouveau bronze footed coffret. The lid cast with a maiden seated within a tree. (Daphne?*). The back panel cast with a landscape & fountain. Resting on four splayed feet with winged bird like creatures at each corner. The interior lined with original red velvet. With original key and functioning lock. Stamped 'R' to base.

• *Daphne in Greek mythology was a beautiful nymph who resisted the unwanted advances of the god Apollo, leading to her transformation into a laurel tree just as he caught her, making the laurel his sacred plant symbolizing victory and purity.
